That Smell

I love to cook. I mean I REALLY love to cook. I consider myself a fairly decent cook. As a matter of fact, people tell me on a pretty consistent basis that I am a total kick butt cook. I am pretty sure that means my food is worth eating. That is why I was so shocked at a recent conversation I had with my husband, Bob.

"Honey, what's that smell?"

"What smell?"

"I don't know. It smells like...like...like cat poop. Did the cat poop in the kitchen?"

"Um....that would be dinner."

Anyway, tonight's menu includes pork chile verde, rice and beans, all made from scratch. Wait, let me clarify that statement. That is tonight's menu for everyone sitting at my dinner table tonight except Bob. He will be eating crow.

My man always tells my mom what a great cook she is because she always feeds him. He knows which side his bread is buttered on because I don't cook. He gives me "You're pretty" compliments to stay on my good side.

Yum - on the dinner part, not the crow part! Since he won't be eating what's on the menu, could you send it to me instead? Or at least post the recipe?

HAHAHA that's perfect.

Come on, I know you let him eat. Did he get seconds? I bet he liked it. He liked the taste, just not the aroma while it was cooking. Funny.

LOL - that is too funny! ron has learned to say "what smells so good" when i'm in the kitchen because i frequently tell him "dinner" and he's going to eat what it is or go hungry. hehehe... i'd never make him go hungry but he usually makes an attempt to eat it and usually admits that it was good. some things don't turn out as well as i envisioned them but not often.

Really? Cauliflower is stinky but chili verde? (That sounds really good, by the way!)

If you're in the kitchen cooking the only comment should be 'should I wash the dishes when we're done'?

You two are very cute.

So, so, so funny but I must confess I feel immense compassion for your Bob. One time, as a kid, I went into the kitchen and saw my mom stirring something that looked so gross and said. "Eww. I would rather have cereal." Turns out, it was my favorite meal (must not know how the cooking of it transforms it) and I dined on cheerios that evening. I never, ever said anything like that again.

Maybe Bob had a sinus attack? Send him to the doctor's.

:-) I had a similar issue the other week when I asked my wife why the bathroom smelled funny, only to discover that it was because it was clean. How was I supposed to know that the bathroom needed cleaning? We have only lived here two years - how often do they usually get done?

I can assume then that you are also going to try to claim royalty fees for developing a fajita linea as well. Somehow, I don't think that the allure of cammarones will diminish.

Ok Granny ~ Do I have your email? I will go check and send you the recipe if I do. You want the chile verde and not the crow, correct?

Techno ~ Ok, I just threatened crow. He ate. :-)

honeypiehorse ~ It was....once you got past the smell. :-)

Glen ~ You consistently make me laugh!

Nicole ~ She is hanging tough. This has been hard on her because she was doing so well before the surgery that it's been hard to "start over". You should come up when I'm there. We'll have a sleepover!!!

You are too sensitive. I'm sure he meant it smelled like cat poop in a good way.
