Sundays In My City

Sunday has always meant church to me.
When I was a kid, church looked like this.

Saint Helen

When I was a teenager, it looked like this.

The Jesus Movement

As a young adult, church looked like this.

The older I got, the more church began to look like this to me...

Loving God from the front row of a wheat field

and this...

Loving God on the streets

and this...

I love Sundays. I love Church. But what I really, really, absolutely really love is being the Church!

Well, isn't that special!!

Happy Sunday!!!

Strangely, I love a by-week. There was no NFL football in my city this Sunday and I loved that my husband was free to go about in the world.

Church can go either way week to week. It's a constantly evolving thing for me too!

Sundays ~ really hard to say. When I was much younger it did mean going to church every Sunday. Unless I was deathly sick my mom said I would be in church. I love going and even went to Mass before school some days!!

I feel silly even commenting here since you know how I feel. I love God. I love the church. I love that Jesus saved me. But I am not quite sure if I have really grasped (after all these years) how to be sold out, dying to self, stepping out of tradition, loving with action, picking up my cross, sacrificing myself for the sake of others, kingdom building, and utterly a slave to righteousness kind of Christian. I suppose that is the walk...living out what I have already attained and racing that race marked out for me. But you Marla, make it more real and tangible for me than you could ever know. You inspire. Not because you are super holy and got it together. Simply because of your heart for Christ.

Well, Saturday is my Sabbath, but I love seeing parents with their children all dressed up and looking adorable on Sundays. It's very sweet.
Happy new week, Marla.

Sunday is a day of rest. R&R.

And football.

My "church" happens twice a week. I dont go to a building, or spend time kneeling in a closet, or even read my bible. I run...for 2 hours. Ever run for 2 hours? You bet you are doing a LOT of praying....survival comes first, than your thankful you made it. But really, those 2 hours are the most amazing, insightful, inspiring, uplifting, times of my whole week.

Some people call it crazy, I call it "church"....I love going to my church :)

XO
Marie

Amen!

I love that Sunday is the day when I take myself out of the world and focus on spiritual things. I try my best to "observe the sabbath" like people did in the "olden days". It's the only chance I have in the week to really shut out the world and focus totally on God. :)

Terrific post Marla. Thank you.

Sundays are usually about family around the dinner table. Nothing makes me happier than to see my husband smiling at the other end of the table because he's surrounded by his kids and grandkids.

Yesterday we were at the most beautiful Armenian Church for a wedding. None of it was in English but we could tell from some of the body language what was being said. It was beautiful.

Have a great week, jj

Marla,

Just heard this one.
Don't let organized religion get in the way of your spirituality.

I love that wheat field and when you posted the pic of the Church lady I cracked up! Almost woke the hubs up!
Sundays mean family and friends!

I prefer the blue sky and wheat field when it comes to going to church. I have big issues with the churches and who goes there and who feels the need to tell you like it is.
Love your photos : )

Honestly, I hate Sundays. It's the most boring day of the week...unless there's a Nascar race or football game on. Hey, I never said I was a 'girly girl'. ; )

And Nature is my (chosen) church.

I don't think one day a week is the only day to care about other people or to nurture my soul. And I do like your row out in the wheat field. You are talking about the difference between church and religion. Hugs.
