Sundays In My City

Believe it or not, Oklahoma is filled to overflowing with incredible state parks and lakes. As a matter of fact, Oklahoma has the highest number of lakes created by dams in the entire nation. Last Sunday, we went to Fort Gibson state park to enjoy one of those lakes. We went to swim and boat and relax. Doesn't this look relaxing?

Looks can be deceiving because this is what was happening inside that fifth wheel...all...weekend!

We arrived late Friday night. Saturday morning, right after breakfast, the troops were ready for water frivolity. We were ready for the troops to leave the fifth wheel.

I do not like swimming in anything where I cannot see the bottom clearly. This includes oceans, lakes, ponds, reservoirs....get the idea? So, although I look like I am a wonderful Nona enjoying a leisurely swim with two of my girls, I am actually holding onto Ahni in case something from below should grab me. Oh yeah, I will toss her in front of me so fast in order to survive, that little six year old won't know what hit her. She's fish food if they come near me. No, seriously. I am so glad she doesn't read this blog.

Corina offered to babysit Gladys onboard the boat while I took a dip with my six year old body shield.

Gladys, however, refused to be left behind, and proceeded to jump overboard repeatedly. I finally let Ahni go in favor of pushing Gladys in front of me. I hope PETA doesn't read this blog, either.

The afternoon went swimmingly, with no casualties from down under. I know they're there though. Oh, I know, believe you me. I saw Jaws in the '70s.

Then our oldest son, Matt, decided to show off.

Of course, this meant his wife, Molly, had to show him the correct way to show off.

Then it was back to camp for burgers with the grill master. Nice outfit.

Speaking of nice outfits, somebody kill me now...please. And could I get another chin on that bobble head? Holy Dunkin Donuts!

Warning! If your oldest son ever offers to give rides on The Tube and then smiles like this when you accept, DO NOT GET ON THE TUBE!!!

Why? Because first, he will try to kill his bro-in-law, his own little son and one of his sisters.

Then, when they escape, he will try to do away with his oldest sister, his wife and his youngest sister.

When that doesn't work, he will make an attempt on the very persons who gave him life, along with a second attempt on his own little son. Yes, I took my grandson along for a shield. I'm no dummy!

Smart people keep their heads down...

and then there are boys. Nice outfit.

Seriously, somebody shoot us both. Just call the fashion police and line us up. You'll be doing us both a favor. I mean, who wears a little girlie vest like that and I am not talking about me. Something is seriously wrong with this picture. Have we no shame?

I am pretty sure they were considering jumping overboard after seeing their grandparents disgusting displays of belly.

The End

You sure found a way to beat the heat. Ah, the memories you helped create for your grands.

Oh, and one word of advice from one who has experienced it - if any of your children ever say, "Just trust me, Mom" - RUN!

Hey, it looks like a great time. There are a whole bunch of us out here in heatland burning up and would really like a day like that. I truly like the way you ended the post. So cute.

As your little sister I just want to say these must be FAKE pictures! Because no family member would post such unflattering pics of themselves.....or would they? Are you off your meds again?
I LOVE YOU!

Oh goodness, how fun! Although, like you, I don't like to swim in bodies of water where I can't see what my feet are touching! What if I touch something dead? Ewwwww!

Good times. And here I thought Utah had the most man made lakes.

I love being drug on the tube. It takes no skill at all.

This looks like BEEG fun... Except that I spent zillions of years at Lake Thunderbird (aka Diry Bird) while growing up. I will never forget the awful Oklahoma heat. And the dirty lake water. And skeeters big enough to screw a chicken standing flat-footed. Best of luck getting the AC. Did you consider selling a kidney? Would be a sound investment...

Oh my gosh you had me laughing the whole time. I love your captions..I wanna come over and hang out with you guys! you sure know how to have fun : )

P.S. Im the same way with water..I need to see the bottom or I spend the whole time with my toes curled up and my knees bent so nothing will touch them..LOL

That looks like tons of fun! And I totally agree on the 'bottomless water' thing.

Oh my goodness, Marla! You make me laugh! I especially loved your comment about another chin--where do all those chins come from as we age?!!! And your comments about fashion were great. Too, too funny! But hey, you're smart to spend Oklahoma's horribly hot days in the water, even if you can't see the bottom.

That 1st pic reminds of a recent Saturday night when my 14 & 15 y.o. nieces asked me to play cards...then proceeded to giggle so much that it gave me a headache. But I got my revenge, I won that game because they sooooo were not paying attention. lol!

LOVE the last picture! Too cute!

You cast on those aspersions on your sweet self and they don't disguise what's there: a couple of happy people goofing around with their marvelous blessings!

MARLA!!!! I was so glad to see your name pop up today & then I was smiling so big when I saw all the sweet comments you wrote! I have really missed you! Really! This summer I have been a terrible blog person because when you live in MN you know you only have a few days of summer :) SO when I get on I try to visit people who have visited me but I am really struggling with even that so then I don't ever get to visit the places I really LOVE to visit...like you in OK. :)

I LOVED seeing your famliy - you sure know how to tell a story. You ARE a great Nona for getting in that water! Don't tell anyone but I used to swim in the MIssissippi. Yeah. I have radioactive powers now :) Actually I probably will again someday :) When you have in-laws with a boat there....you know...you just get in when it is hot. You do deserve world's greatest Nona for getting on the tube! I love tubing but I actually think I would like a ride by your son. I like the crazy drivers that try to kill you :) It looked like a lot of fun!

I gotta run because I can hear Kelly yelling for Bo outback-seemed he might have slipped off on hubby while he is working on the deck- better run but I did love your visit today!!! Take ZCare Marla!
