One of these people never drinks and is fairly normal...considering who they married and all.
Even my grandson Cavan likes a nip from the bottle now and then.
What I am trying to say is this: I experienced two firsts at my son’s rehearsal dinner. I had my first margarita ever. Ok, I had my first four margaritas ever. Hey, they were small and I was thirsty…and nervous. Remember, I had never met the new in-laws so have mercy on me. Anyway, the other first was singing Karaoke…in public…with four margaritas under my belt. They were small ones, people! Anyway, I have a feeling those two firsts are somehow related.
My granddaughter Corina got into the act too. I obviously had lost any picture taking skills at this point.
So I am singing. I can’t remember which songs except one. Yep, I chose to sing Stand By Your Man. Really loud. To my husband. I think I was incredibly good as a matter of fact. I’m almost positive of it because people were smiling. No wait, they were laughing. Ok, so maybe I wasn’t good but I was entertaining and that is all that matters, right? Right?? This is just more proof of why I need Jesus.
I think this is the little gal that kept screaming, "Make it stop!"
So, as we were getting in the car to drive back to my sister’s house, (Bob drove because drinking and driving is WRONG!), my son starts hugging me. And as he is hugging me and telling me how much he loves me he says, “We are truly the inappropriate family.”
I’ve never been prouder of him!
Tori and our son Andrew the day before the wedding...the night of the rehearsal...before the Karaoke fiasco. Look at them smiling. Ah, to be young and clueless again.

Oh, how I love my margaritas! Karaoke, never... not even drunk. Sounds like the rehearsal dinner went well. Can't wait to hear about the wedding and see that dress you got.
I'm with Ms. A - 'yay' on the margaritas (even the small ones) and 'nay' on the Karaoke. I embarrass myself enough just by breathing.
I'm glad to know that your husband never drinks and is fairly normal...
This made me laugh..lol I love your posts..I LOVE strawberry margaritas! Long Island ice teas are pretty darn good too. Im not much of a drinker. I can have one and Im giggling like an idiot..lol no singing though..never ever.EVER
It looks like good fun was had by all!
Heehee you are too funny! Margarita's are my down fall....if I was there would pushed you outta the way for the mike...congrats to your son! He is a cutie!
Oh my goodness, I can't stop laughing. Margaritas are my favorite! I'm still waiting to see a picture of you singing karaoke in that hot dress!
I've never had a margarita before either. So I've made a note to myself - just don't. I sing bad enough as it is. :)
Sounds like a wonderfully, fun, special family time.
Ok,so who do we take after two drinks at the wedding and I was slurring my words. Did that bartender make strong drinks? or just my light weight self when it comes to drinks.
Sorry I missed the karaoke would have loved to see that.
Oh,yes and you have to add beautiful and handsome to that "Oh to be young again."
Love ya cuz,
Cher
Blasé ~ Me too!
Sonya ~ When it comes to drinking, that is the only time I can call myself a lightweight and be telling the truth. :-)
Coby ~ Karaoke was pants and the hot top. The wedding was the hot dress. Pictures should be here soon. I'm scared!
Ok Granny ~ I think I shall take your advice and JUST DON'T next time. :-)
Cher ~ Are the two of us a mess or what? However, we are still beautiful! Big girls just have MORE beauty to go around. Love you, cuz!!
Hmmm . . . I'm not sure there is a "small" margarita made anywhere.
;)
My hubbins doesn't drink either. But he's not really normal. Ha! Love him.
We won't talk about Karoake though. I've embarrassed myself more times than I care to think about.
Margaritas and karaoke seem to go hand in hand in this house too...
I want to hear about the in-laws. Did they sing and laugh and drink and join in the fun too? I hope everyone enjoyed the rehearsal dinner and all the family get together stuff. Happy wedding!
Sounds like a lot of fun! I become the world's best dancer when I've had a few.
mmm...margaritas...seldom drink but a good margarita is a weakness...and i am just disappointed no one took a video of the singing...smiles.
Love it! I will sing karaoke sober, much to my husband's distress.
OH FOR THE LOVE! I love this...you rule.
You never forget your first Margarita
i love margaritas! that's my drink of choice when i go out. i like kahlua at home because it's too expensive out. kahlua in coffee, on ice cream, kahlua with cream or milk or coffee creamer - yep... great combinations.
loved this post. sounds like you had a great time. can't wait to see the dress.
As always, Marla, you've made me smile. Your prize will be on the way as soon as the autographed book arrives (next week?) AND .... Surprise! There's a little present for you on my blog :)
oxoxox
Denalee
Sounds like you had a great time. Four margs...big deal. They were just little ones....so are shots of everclear.
Sounds like the only time you don't like to drink is when you are sleeping.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time and your son is so very handsome!!
We should all be able to set free the inner child that wants to sing and dance, most of us need alcohol, some are just a little nuttier and able to pull it out of the bag with no inhibitions....not me.
Me-2 margaritas and I would be singing at the top of my lungs and it wouldnt be pretty :) Marla on the other hand......all joy.
Be free Marla!! Oh yeah, I want to see those pictures :)
It's important to listen very carefully to Dr Jimmy Buffet, and at the same time to be aware. No, 'beware' is the word. I thought going to see Mr Buffet in Dallas would be a highlight and worthy of pre-game 'ritas. So I ordered two. Unbeknownst to me, it was three-for-one happy hour... And, as you said, I was thirsty. Lord have mercy. Huge strategic error. BTW, lovely family, and what an incredible and loving gift you Mom left you. I know what you will grab first if the house ever starts to flood, God forbid... Cheers
Bill
Glaringly omitted from your post, however, is the concensus of your performance as judged by the new in-laws.
I offer perhaps the repeated "Make it stop" cries were in fact emanating from the other side as a final plea to their daughter before she became related to...........(ahem) your husband.
Just sayin'.
I can hear you belting out "Stand By Your Man" after those margaritas. It makes me smile.
This is the funniest post-- I'll be smiling all night.
I really don't drink-- not since the night I got married and drank so much I had a hangover for our ENTIRE honeymoon-- not a drop since. But, it sounds like you had a very fun night.
As for being an "inappropriate family". My Big Sister says when she has a party-- if the police don't come it's not a success, so I know exactly whst your son meant :-)
Congrats to the newlyweds and for grandson is adorable.
jj
As a non (other than the occasional 1/2beer that gets me pretty tipsy) I really appreciate your story. It's good to be inappropriate from time to time. congrats to you.
Oh Marla- How I wish I could have been there! I actually am even more embarrassing...I don't even drink & I act a fool like that! But then I hope people just think I am drunk..My lil sis & I karoked EARL"S GOTTA DIE at her Bachelorette party & man. We should have had some drinks...then we might have been a little better.
Can't wait to hear the rest of the wedding news!
Techno ~ Everything was so crazy that we didn't get to spend a lot of time visiting with the new in-laws. They seem like nice people and yes....they sang along with the crazy family. :-)
Michelle ~ Awesome! I'll sing, you dance.
Glen ~ Remembering is more my problem. :-)
Teresa ~ So, someday, we'll have a Kahlua and coffee at your house. Not that I drink!
Denalee ~ You are way too good to me, sister!
Marie ~ You should have been there. It was ridiculous. Can't wait to do it again...minus 3 margaritas. :-)
Bill ~ Call us if you make it to Oklahoma someday. You're our kind of crazy!
Mark ~ Thank you for your support. :-)
Oh Marla,
You have no idea how much I needed this post today! I really needed a good laugh. Thanks so much,
Kate
Margaritas are my one vice..my only vice. Gotta love them on warm days or cold days..or any day! I only sang in public once..it was not pretty.. I enjoyed this post very much..I am glad your sister is recovering and I hope we get to see that dress soon! Thanks for the comments over on my blog:)
Mala-Too funny! It sounds like you had a wonderful time and congratulations to your son and new daughter-in-law!! I want to thank you for taking time to comment and read so many of my posts. Blogging for 365 days is challenging, but reading those posts is even more challenging. Thank You! It really meant a lot to me. Peace to you, Kathy
Marla - come on over... we'll have that Kahlua anytime!
Please visit my blog. I've left a little something there for you.
Margaritas and Karaoke...drinking and singing...I am thinking there should be warnings when these two activities are merged together especially by YOU! This was a much needed laugh for me and my favorite part was the crazy photo and the "make it stop" quote. You never cease to delight ME especially when it is at your own expense!
Ohhh my gosh!! Wish I could have been there! That's so funny!! When are you coming over to the Netherlands to have a good drink with my father and me?
Too funny! Yay for weddings!! :)
Oh my god, this had me laughing so hard!!! I've been there. Well not the karaoke part. Although maybe, I don't actually remember so who knows right? It sounds like an awesome time was had by all though, that's all that ever matters!!
There's nothing one with a OR FOUR 'ritas! Ah ha ha. I hope the wedding was a beautiful day!
p.s. Thank you so much for following BonBon Rose Girls. We just got our own .com, so I'll hope you'll follow us there too at: http://www.bonbonrosegirls.com. I don't drink either. OK... a glass of wine now and then. Maybe a cold beer by the campfire. Bailey's is terrific in coffee! I can sooo relate. They call us light-weights. And yes, I think there is a direct correlation between the margaritas and the karaoke! ;)
Well, if you were able to write about it and remember, it must not have been too bad. :)
Congratulations on a wedding. Weddings are fun. California should have been a pretty venue.
